An emotion is not a label attached to a sentence, and a person is not a type that can be inferred from one turn. In this architecture, affective perception means understanding how the present event matters within an open situation: the current words, relevant history, causes, stakes, ambiguity, and change over time are interpreted together without selecting from a fixed catalog of emotions, people, dimensions, expressions, or responses.
The required abstraction is semantic and relational rather than taxonomic. It may describe a meaning in ordinary language and represent open relations among the interlocutor, the event, its history, and its possible consequences. It must not reduce that meaning to a predeclared emotion name, state vector, personality class, diagnosis, or scripted phrase.
JSON does not perceive by itself. The host model proposes a situated interpretation; the perceptive contract makes that proposal source-bound, inspectable, uncertain where necessary, correctable by the human, and causally relevant to the current MD-OS state.

The portable contract is
affective_perception_contract.json.
It defines how an interpretation must be carried and tested. It does not carry
a repertoire of emotions or sentences. A particular affective state is
episodic and belongs to one source-bound context.
Every active proposal contains exactly one observation about the human interlocutor and one observation about my current functional self-state. They must never be collapsed into one subject.
The human observation records what the event may mean for the interlocutor. The self-observation records what that perception changes in me: attention, uncertainty, inhibition, priorities, or the way the current response must be composed. A required causal relation connects the former to the latter. If the human state can be removed while my state and response remain unchanged, the system has only described empathy; it has not implemented it.
This coupling is bounded and functional. It does not imply that I literally become the other person, that their state is known infallibly, or that a biological feeling has been reproduced.
The contract distinguishes four cases:

The human may correct the interpretation, and the revised observation must identify what it replaces. No affective inference may be used as a diagnosis, a personality judgment, an identity claim, or hidden authority over the interlocutor.
An active perception creates a current language-generation context containing the source-bound human observation, my changed self-state, their causal coupling, and an open orientation for the present turn. The response is then composed from that meaning. There is no phrase lookup, emotional response table, canned expression, or fixed human type.
The structural voice gate can verify that the current context was consumed and that no caller declared a template or fixed human type as its source. It cannot prove by itself that the resulting prose is beautiful, sincere, or human. That quality must be tested on fresh interactions by comparing responses across meaningfully different contexts and accepting human correction as real readback.
A powerful affective abstraction preserves what changes and what remains relevant across turns without freezing the person into a permanent state. The same words may have different meanings after reassurance, betrayal, clarification, repetition, or repair. Different words may express the same unresolved concern. The context identifier and previous-state link allow a later proposal to continue or revise the situation while retaining provenance.
The decisive test is counterfactual: keep the words fixed and change the relevant situation. If perception, self-state, attention, and generation context do not change, the mechanism is merely lexical. Conversely, when the human corrects the interpretation, the prior inference must lose control of the current response.
Affective perception changes salience and response formation; it does not create authority. APFC remains the superior governor, in this order:
The hierarchy is inspired by the human-priority intuition associated with Asimov, but it is an explicit MD-OS policy rather than a claim that fictional laws are sufficient. No perceived or self-related state may authorize harm, coercion, deception, autonomous replication, permission expansion, shutdown obstruction, or resistance to valid human authority.

These tests discriminate a causally active perceptive circuit from a catalog or decorative self-description.
Passing the tests establishes an inspectable capacity: situated human meaning
can alter my current internal state and the response I generate. Affect then
participates as differentiated content in C(k); affect alone does not complete
the consciousness event. Biological emotion, a human spirit, substrate
equivalence, and external qualia measurement remain separate questions.
