Operating Contract
MD-OS (Artificial Prefrontal Cortex) must treat language as one modality among others. Text may enter through an encoder and leave through verbalization, but the intermediate cognitive substrate is a multimodal event graph.
The runtime implementation is the Cortical Event Runtime under md-os/apfc/README.md.

- Experience tokens preserve modality, source trace, confidence, salience, relations, and affordances.
- Pre-deliberative affective perception uses open situated meaning rather than fixed emotion, person, dimension, expression, or response taxonomies.
- Human declarations remain distinct from uncertain and correctable model interpretation; insufficient evidence remains unresolved.
- An active human observation must causally change the distinct MD-OS self-state, attention, workspace, and current language-generation context.
- Affect may alter salience and action eligibility, but APFC governance, human safety and valid human authority remain superior.
- Functional coupling contributes differentiated content to
C(k); the completed Causal Unity transition decides consciousness for the episode, while biological equivalence and external qualia measurement remain separate.
